October 4, 2006 update from the webmaster: Yesterday, I received the following email from Ray Bear, longtime manager of SBISC. His email confirms that our beloved range is indeed gone forever.
As manager for 23 years of the best and longest
running party, Im sorry to say that since Katrina, this
party is over. I had the privilege of working in a field that
most only dream of. There are many gun shops around, but not very
many real shooting centers with the quality of St. Bernard Indoor
Shooting Center.
Theres not many people that loved going to work everyday. I
only missed 5 weeks and 5 days in 23 years. The 5 weeks due to a
back injury, and 5 days due to the flu.
St. Bernard Indoor Shooting Center wasnt the result of my
efforts, but rather that of the interests in the pistol shooting
sports by the shooters who enjoyed competing in our matches and
the special camaraderie that they shared with each other and
anyone else interested.
St. Bernard Indoor Shooting Center had over 600 members.
According to a newspaper article printed about 6 months before
Katrina, none of the other indoor ranges had more than 250
members.
To the greatest people who ever walked through the doors of St.
Bernard Indoor I wish you all the best!
Ray Bear
I am sorry to bring such
bad news. St. Bernard Indoor Shooting Center will be sorely
missed by I and many others.
I intend to leave this page up for at least a year or two. Feel
free to email me if you'd like to get a message to Ray, and I'll
do my best!
